The Tantric tradition has left a trail guide to the illuminative teachings towards an awakened liberated Self. This path is pointed out to us in the revealed teachings of the sages of the past. Perhaps most elegantly depicted in the tantras of Kashmir Shaivism. And within the body of teachings called Kashmir Shaivism, one text is said to encapsulate the essence of teachings are The Śiva Sutras.
The Śiva Sutras are a collection of 77 aphorisms that comprise the
basic understanding of the tradition of Kashmir Shaivism in the 9th
century. Considered, perhaps the preeminate text on liberation, it
continues to be a source of finding a way to unpack the reality of the awakened state. Because of it’s of its accessibility and relevance to leading an awakened life, the teaching of Kashmir Shaivism has continued to inspire and influence modern thinkers.
This course is an immersive dive into the teachings of these Sutras. We will unpack key Sutras and work with practices to pour into the felt sense of their meanings. All philosophy and sutras are only place holders until we have the living taste of the actual experience. Whether you are a teacher deepening your understanding of yogic philosophy or a yogi wanting to deepen your own meditation and practice technology, this course is designed to forge deep relational pathways into the boundless reservoir of Source.
I first met these sutras
… in the early 2000s and then in 2007, spent a year studying them in a small group with my meditation/philosophy teacher Sally Kempton. Since that time, I have ruminated over, chewed on, wrestled with and ultimately endeavored to bring these sutras alive into my own living experience. Our collective intention is to bring the teaching deep into the marrow of our bones and unveil how to live from the core of our essential Self.
The study of sutras of this nature elevates the student as we use the text as a backdrop to churn our own consciousness in these times.
The relevancy of the teaching of Kashmir Shaivism has continued to inspire and influence modern thinkers because of its immediate accessibility and relevance to leading an awakened life.
